REANNA GARCIA
Tohono O'odham

      Reanna Garcia is Tohono O'odham, is registered in Hickiwan District but lives on her dad's side in Cowlic. Weaving comes down to her from her mother's side. Her mother is Della Garcia and father is Mervin Garcia. She has two sisters, Princella Garcia and Mashawna Garcia.

     Reanna weaves split-stitch baskets with spiral designs. Her mother taught her to weave. She wanted to learn weaving since she was small, and her mother wanted her to learn because weaving came down from her side of the family. She has gone to harvest yucca with her mom for their baskets.

     Reanna weaves whenever she has the time and weaves because it's part of her culture and weaving should continue, it's what Tohono O'odham have always done. Her mom is very encouraging, which makes her want to continue weaving. Reanna is a sophomore in high school.
